The Relentless Body-Shaming on Kate Middleton: Can We Not?!

So there’s Kate Middleton, innocently stepping out of her house to attend an unofficial music festival, when suddenly, she finds herself at the receiving end of the dreaded unsolicited body commentary. Cue the eye rolls.
It’s incredible how strangers on the internet can come up with an incomplete list of critique based on an amateur snapshot – “painfully thin,” “painfully slim,” “wasting away,” “not well,” “sickly,” and gasp “emaciated”! Oh, and let’s not forget the bold comparison to a person with a drug addiction. Seriously, people?
But wait, it gets juicier. Several self-proclaimed internet detectives have taken it upon themselves to speculate that Kate has an eating disorder. Can we please take a moment to collectively facepalm?
Now, here’s a thought: How about we put an end to this senseless body-shaming and speculation? Women in the public eye, especially those in the royal family, already face an obscene level of scrutiny. Just look at Princess Diana, who bravely battled an eating disorder throughout her marriage. In her own words, “The bulimia started the week after we got engaged and would take nearly a decade to overcome.” And what was the trigger, you ask? Oh, just her husband casually pointing out her waistline and asking, “Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?” Talk about insensitive!
Oh, and let’s not forget Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of Pork, as she was so kindly nicknamed by the tabloids. Can you imagine having the chance to confront the journalist responsible for that atrocious moniker? Fergie, as she’s affectionately known, unleashed her fury, saying, “My heavens, you were the cause of my eating disorders, my mental stress, my demise. If only I’d known it wasn’t real. It was entirely made up.” Power move, Fergie!

So, here’s the deal: We cannot possibly know if Kate Middleton has an eating disorder, and it’s irresponsible and downright cruel to speculate on it. What we do know is that if her weight ever fluctuated even slightly in the other direction, the tabloids would have a field day with horrific fat-shaming headlines.
So, how about we all take a collective breath and stop this madness? Let Kate live her life without having to constantly defend her appearance. Thank you very much.
