SNL is back!
SNL is back!

Now that the writers strike is finally over, get ready to laugh your socks off because Saturday Night Live! is making its glorious return on October 14! And boy, do they have a treat for us in the Season 49 premiere. SNL alumni, the hilarious Pete Davidson, will be taking over the hosting duties. Oh, and as if that’s not exciting enough, the one and only Ice Spice will be gracing the stage as the musical guest! Can you feel the excitement in the air?
Just in case you didn’t know, Davidson was originally scheduled to host an episode before the pesky strike got in the way. But fear not, comedy fans, because he’s back and ready to bring his A-game to the SNL set. Davidson left the show in 2022 to pursue his own projects, but he’s grateful for the platform SNL provided him. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, he said, “I started getting taken seriously as a comic. It really changed my life.” Well, we’re glad it did because we can’t imagine the comedy world without him.
Now, let’s talk about something slightly awkward, shall we? As Davidson’s popularity soared, he became the talk of the town. And by town, we mean the media! From dating Cazzie David to Ariana Grande and even Kim Kardashian, the news cycle couldn’t get enough of his love life. And you know SNL couldn’t resist poking fun at the situation in their famous cold opens. But hey, it’s a bit strange when you go from being the joker to being the punchline. As Davidson recently revealed on Jon Bernthal’s podcast, Real Ones, “It’s your own show, and I’ll be sitting in the back watching the cold open and [it’s] topical political humor or whatever in the culture, and they’re making fun of you and you gotta walk out and do a sketch next and hit your mark. The show just made fun of you, so why are they going to laugh at you? They just dogged you.” We can only imagine how surreal that must feel!
But enough of the past, let’s focus on the future. When SNL returns next weekend, we can expect some seriously hilarious sketches. You know Pete might just throw in a clever parody of a member of the Yellowstone family or have Chad meet the Please Don’t Destroy guys. The possibilities are endless, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with!
